Description

The thrill of crossing Chola Pass the ever changing trails of Ngozumpa Glacier

Gokyo Lake, also known as Dudh Pokhari (Pond of Milk) is a valley laden with heavenly beauty

and the magical colors of sunset seen from Gokyo Ri. To get to the Gokyo lake we need to pass through the chola glacier. Cho La is a summit pass located 5,420 meters (17,782 ft) above sea level in the Solukhumbu District in northeastern Nepal.

An Interesting thing about Gokyo is that anyone who’s visiting Gokyo for the first time can pray and make a wish here by coming to the lake on an empty stomach.

it is believed that Gokyo will grant your wishes only by following certain process that is to

close your eyes and join your hands in prayers then submerge your hand into the water and whatever you find, a small pebble or a large rock, that’s your wish, grab it and take it with you, and once your wish is fulfilled come back to Gokyo and return the stone

The reason you need to return the stone is because it is believed that since it has fulfilled your wish, when you return it here, it will fulfill someone else’s wish again who will find this stone.

There is also a holy shrine in Gokyo. During the festival of Janai Purnima a lot of Nepalese pilgrims come to the shrine located at Gokyo to pray for the betterment of their family and themselves. there’s a shrine for buddhist people as well, it is around 200m ahead of the shrine that is worshiped by primarily hindu people.

Gokyo ri is maybe around 6-700 m higher than Gokyo. The trail from Gokyo to Gokyo Ri is very steep. right in front of Gokyo ri is the top of the World, Mt. Everest. As the sun goes down in the west, the wonders of nature begin to unravel. The giant Himalayan ranges start to turn Golden, the sky becomes vibrant with a variety of colors and gradients.

The chola pass links the gokyo valley to the main trail of Everest base camp. The pass offers superb views of the snow capped giants of the khumbu, including amadablam, lhotse, nuptse, cholatse and makalu. The classic trekking challenges of Gokyo ri and kalapathar, both summits provide outstanding views of Everest and many other 8000m and 7000m peaks which are the complete reward of the trek.

People are said to be dumbstruck with the magnificent sight in front of them. They say that it is  breathtaking and one of the most beautiful views they have ever seen.

The  beautiful lake, and the colorful skies of Gokyo is worth visiting.
